ALMA Award
The purpose of the ALMA Distinguished Service Award for Laboratory Management is to recognize outstanding performance and service to the profession of analytical laboratory management. It is presented annually at the ALMA U.S. Conference held each fall.
The Award consists of a plaque and $3,000 plus up to $1,000 travel to attend the ALMA annual meeting. It began in 2002 and is sponsored by Agilent Technologies.
2006 Winner

Dr. Willem de Beer
The sixth ALMA Distinguished Service Award for Analytical Laboratory Management was presented to Dr. Willem de Beer at ALMA’s 28th Conference in San Antonio, TX during October, 2007.
Currently, Dr. de Beer is in charge of the degree training at the Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa whereby there are approximately 50 students per year who receive training in various aspects of laboratory management. Many of these projects have been published by Dr. de Beer in Managing the Modern Laboratory (MML). In addition, Dr. de Beer has taught numerous short courses in the areas of laboratory management, quality management, productivity management, laboratory quality standards, and laboratory safety management at numerous locations in Africa, In addition, he has presented numerous papers on these subjects at conferences including Pittcon and ALMA.
